Help on Safeguarding Children training

Practice Managers last year also identified Safeguarding as an area for the Federation to offer some help. We have been looking at this with the help of Ellen Footman, designated nurse for safeguarding across the county, in the hope that practices can better understand the responsibilities for Child Safeguarding Training and that it should become more accessible to them.

We have now completed a guide as to what is required for all levels of staff safeguarding, how you can book onto the courses and lots of useful links. Courses are available with Worcester County Council and are generally held twice monthly across Worcestershire. All Safeguarding course dates have now been added to the Events Calendar on our website along with instructions on how to book. More dates are due to be added, so do look at the calendar.

Basic Life Support Training

We have teamed up with Spire Healthcare to deliver basic life support training following the scoping exercise we undertook last year with our practice managers to identify potential areas of necessary ongoing support. All courses will be run by a Registered General Nurse and an Advance Life Support Provider with each session lasting for one hour. Training can be provided on site at surgeries or at Spire South Bank Hospital on specific dates.

How GPs can help solve the crisis in A&E

A & E hasn’t been out of the news recently and it is something the Federation has been working on closely.

The Federation have been working closely with the Acute Trust since June 2014 to provide a GP in A&E every day of the year.

Triage directs appropriate patients to this GP and this is designed to see whether experienced local GPs can reduce investigations, waiting times, turnaround times, admissions and cost while maintaining high quality care.

The CCG and A&E department have been working non-stop over the festive period to maintain the system and keep it running. In support of this the Federation were asked if we could help out by providing additional support and extra hours.

We would like to thank Dr Karen Hegarty, Dr James Mather and Dr Isabel Alford, who kindly stepped in to help at short notice. You can find out how to get involved with this project by taking a look at our Job Opportunities page.

SW Healthcare Reveals new Director of Operations!

SW Healthcare is pleased to announce that we have appointed Beverley Priest as our new Director of Operations after a rigorous recruitment process.

Beverley joins us from Turning Point, the national health and social care provider, where she was Director of Primary Care. She brings a wealth of business experience spanning operations and service development, as well as influencing policy at the highest levels. Beverley lives in Worcester with her husband and young daughter.

Beverley will be starting with us from 20th October 2014. ‘I’m proud to be joining SW Healthcare. The priority is to build a strong voice and a stable foundation for our members. We’re in a great position to ensure that our services flourish and grow as the new health economy evolves.’

Meet the new EBB Director…

SW Healthcare would like to welcome Dr Simon Hill as our new Director. Simon has been working with the Federation since the beginning of September and is looking forward to getting more involved as a Director. He says “I am delighted to be joining the board of SW Healthcare at a time that is both exciting and challenging. With pressure being applied to primary care on all sides I believe the Federation is the best way to secure a stable future for all of our local practices. Due to the incredible hard work of the existing directors and support staff SW Healthcare has established itself as an organisation that other areas are looking to replicate. I am looking forward to getting involved with some of the existing projects that are successfully up and running and also with the development of new ones that will potentially benefit both us and our patients.” Simon qualified from Bristol University in 2000 and is currently a GP Partner at Bredon Hill Surgery. Simon has a young family and is a keen sportsman. Welcome Simon!
